Nico Hulkenberg’s move to Renault is one of the most intriguing driver changes of the 2017 season, the German finds himself in a works team for the first time in his Formula 1 career is keen on keeping things simple.

Hulkenberg who moves from Force India to Renault this season, told Racer, “Simple is good, very often. Some big teams have so many resources and they get lost sometimes in the complexity of the sport and of engineering.”

“At Force India I think we were good at keeping it simple, focusing on the important stuff and that way we ran pretty well and successfully.”

For several years Hulkenberg has been one of the most highly rated drivers on the F1 grid, but for some reason no big team has come calling and thus in 115 grand prix starts he has still to celebrate on a grand prix podium.

Renault is in the process of rebuilding their team from the chaos of Genii owned Lotus. Last season was very tough for the French outfit and 2017 is likely to be a challenging one too

, but Hulkenberg is looking at the positives, “I’m not at all nervous actually, no. I’m excited. Yeah there’s a lot of work in front of us but I find that exciting.”

“I know what they’re doing and what the shorter-term and longer-term plan is. It sounds encouraging to me,” added the German.

In 2015 Hulkenberg took advantage of a gap in the Formula 1 calendar to make his debut at Le Mans with Porsche, and famously he won the race in his first attempt. But he is unlikely to return to the legendary event any time soon.

Asked if another Le Mans foray was on the cards, “No, that’s not going to happen. Not in the next few years. I still would like to do it some day but with last year’s calendar anyway… 2015 I think the calendar was a bit more relaxed.”

“Things were getting more and more so you need to really be sure that you can do both. I think it’s good the way it is. I can always go back a bit later,” added Hulkenberg.
