Perez likely to remain at Force India but no deal yet

Sergio Perez (MEX) Sahara Force India F1 celebrates his third position on the podium.Monaco Grand Prix, Sunday 29th May 2016. Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Many reputable (supposedly) Formula 1 news websites are reporting that Sergio Perez has confirmed that he will driving for Force India again in 2017, but he has not yet done so….

These websites are claiming that Perez has confirmed his stay with Force India when he told them, “Very soon you will have an official announcement. I know what I am doing for my future, but I am not in a position yet to confirm it. I am pretty certain what I’m doing, so it’s good.”

This goes against what Force India’s sporting boss Otmar Szafnauer told Auto Motor und Sport last week, “We don’t have to announce anything. We have contracts with Hulkenberg and Perez.”

Speculation has been rife that the Mexican and his backers have been talking to Williams, Renault and even Haas for next season, but Force India are adamant that the Perez is their man in 2017.

But as yet Perez has not said: “I am a Force India driver for another year.”

And until he says this and it is made official, websites reporting it as a done deal are click baiting readers.
