Brakes, or rather lack thereof, have been the Achilles heel of Haas’ impressive first Formula 1 car and this time they suffered a failure on Esteban Gutierrez at their home United States Grand Prix, now the team is looking to test an alternative option in an effort to solve the problem.
Although Romain Grosjean finished tenth at Circuit of the Americas, Gutierrez parked his car without brakes.
Speaking after the race, team principal Guenther Steiner said, “It’s bittersweet because, again with Esteban, a brake failure, it’s nothing to be proud of. But Romain [Grosjean] getting into the points from 17th is an achievement and we’re very happy with it and it shows that everyone didn’t give up, they carried on pushing and we got the result for it.”
Brembo are investigating the issues, but Steiner confirmed the team is considering alternative supplied Carbon Industrie.
“We will test other materials, we need to do something. We cannot keep on breaking them as Esteban was in a good position. It’s the brakes. Brembo is doing their utmost to help find out but we need to as well and do what we need to do for ourselves.”
Asked why the gteam have had so many brake problems, Steiner admitted, “I don’t know, otherwise we wouldn’t have it. Brembo is investigating, let’s see if they find something wrong with it. We don’t know what it is wrong.”
