Despite increasingly downbeat body language, Sebastian Vettel is adamant that all is well at Ferrari who are not giving up on victory this season and in fact is targeting winning all remaining races.
Speaking to media ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend, Vettel said, “Generally we feel good, the atmosphere is good, there’s some bits [for the car] that we’re here to try and find out if they work. But overall we’re making progress.”
“Our season… Singapore maybe is a good reflection! Didn’t go according to plan, could have been better, but it doesn’t matter, arriving here we try to go all out, maximum attack.”
No driver has won the Malaysian Grand Prix more times than Vettel, and last year he triumphed at Sepang for a fourth time. However a victory still eludes Ferrari after 15 races so far this season.
“There’s always a chance to win,” insisted Vettel. “Starting last in Singapore, a lot of people didn’t know what to expect. We knew where we should go with the pace we had and you never know, with a Safety Car at a different time it could have been a completely different race as well, even better or the other way round.
“There’s always a lot of things that could happen on Sunday afternoon and that’s ultimately why we are here. That’s my conviction and that’s my feeling whenever I’m standing on the grid, that there’s always a chance to win. For sure the higher up you are, statistically the higher your chances, but I’m convinced there’s always a chance to win.”
“We have six races left and our target is to do well at all of them and win all of them, which is very ambitious, but we will go race by race and see what we can do,” said Vettel, a four times F1 world champion, who will be starting his 173rd grand prix on Sunday in Malaysia.
