Bottas: My only goal is to go for the win in every race

Valtteri Bottas has now fully digested the fruits of his first grand prix win and it is clear that the quiet spoken Finn is hungry for more, as Formula 1 sets up camp at Circuit de Catalunya for the Spanish Grand Prix.

In the wake of his first F1 victory at the Russian Grand Prix, Bottas told BBC, “It would be stupid not to go for the win – that is going to be the only goal in every race.”

“It is always possible and what is so exciting this year is going to every race I know there is an opportunity for the race win.”

It seems long ago that the 27 year old was drafted in to replace retiring World Champion Nico Rosberg at Mercedes, and with it grabbing one of the best race seat’s in the sport, albeit with a one year contract – the message clear: prove yourself.

Indeed he is doing so. He ticked all the boxes in pre-season testing, made a solid debut in Australia, had a little wobble in China but bounced back with a podium in Bahrain and then did the business with a fine drive to victory in Sochi.

In the wake of his victory, Bottas admitted, “It does make a difference and it is always a confidence boost when you have a good result and many times you can carry on that momentum.”

“I feel the main momentum at the moment is how I have been able to improve every single qualifying and race, and I want to keep that, improving all the time.”

“The main thing for me is to keep doing what I’m doing and focus on my own thing. You need to believe in yourself and know you can be at a competitive level but the main thing is really just keep going and work hard and focus on your own job.

“And my job is to drive the car as quickly as possible. There are many details that go into that but that doesn’t change whatever the situation is, whoever is the team-mate,” added Bottas.

Big Question: Will Valtteri become a regular winner in F1?
