Bahrain FP3: Verstappen springs a surprise

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen upset the Formula 1 form book by ending FP3 at the top of the timing screens, surprising the paddock with a car that many suspected was not quite up to the pace setting Mercedes and Ferrari teams, who in all likelihood were not playing all their aces ahead of qualifying.

Verstappen’s best time of 1:32.194 was a tenth faster than Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes, with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel third, Valterri Bottas fourth in the Mercedes and Kimi Raikkonen fifth in the Ferrari.
