Williams driver Felipe Massa would have been driving Formula E in 2017 had Williams no come calling to lure the Brazilian back to fill the seat of Mercedes bound Valtteri Bottas.
Nevertheless Massa did get the opportunity to test a Formula E car with the Jaguar Racing team, although details of the test – reportedly held in Spain – were kept secret. (Photo above is from our archives)
Massa said afterwards, “I would like to thank Panasonic Jaguar Racing for giving me this opportunity. It was great to experience a Formula E car as it’s something completely different to anything I’ve driven previously.”
“The different power, brakes, tyres and downforce mean it requires quite a different driving style. I’m happy with the experience and what I have learnt. Overall, it’s been a really fun day.”
Massa returns for another Formula 1 season with Williams in 2017, where he will partner teenage rookie Lance Stroll. The first pre-F1 season test takes place in Barcelona starting on 27 February.
