Liberty Media are keen to grow Formula 1 by going to new venues, but at the same time are keen to maintain the classic grand prix venues which gives hope to races happening in Britain and Germany in the future.
The sport’s new CEO told The Sun, “We will have a British grand prix. The foundation of the sport is western Europe. We want to grow it. There’s a negotiating dynamic that exists but we want a healthy relationship with our promoters.”
With Silverstone sending mixed signals about the future of Formula 1 at the venue, Carey said, “We have Silverstone in the UK but I recognise it is not in London.”
Thus suggesting that a London street race is on Liberty’s agenda, as well several street circuit venues particularly in North America.
With regards to the German Grand Prix, which will not take place in 2017, Ross Brawn, managing director of motorsport, told Auto Motor und Sport, “Germany is a traditional race, and we want to protect and preserve the legacy of formula one. Because it is one of the strengths of the sport.”
But at the same time Brawn doubted that the race would make it back on to the 2017 calendar, I don’t think there will be any changes.”
