Triple Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has welcomed his new teammate Valtteri Bottas to the team, after Mercedes confirmed that the Finn will replace retired Nico Rosberg.
Hamilton, who was visiting London, wrote on Twitter: “Welcome to the Team, Valtteri!”
Shortly after Rosberg announced his retirement, Hamilton warned his future teammate, “If you can’t stand the heat, don’t come!”
“I would just say for a driver that’s coming, there’s nothing to be afraid of in respect to being a part of this great team. I’m interested to see who would want to be my team-mate and I’d respect anyone who would want to.”
“I’ve never needed a teammate to be able to push me, but the better the driver the better it is for me when I finish ahead of him. You need someone with good values to represent the team in a positive way, a good work ethic and consistency so we can win the constructors’ championship.”
“They can put any driver they want – bring Sebastian (Vettel), Fernando (Alonso), bring whoever you really want. It doesn’t matter who… I’ll race them, I’m here to race,” added the triple F1 World Champion.
Meanwhile Bottas is relishing the challenge, “Lewis is going to be a great reference, everyone knows exactly how good he is, he’s a great driver. I am sure as a pair we can work well, I’m sure we can be good team players together.
“I see no issues at all between us. I am sure we can work well together, push each other on the track hard, race fair but really hard and at the same time push the team together,” added Bottas. Full report here>>>
