Nico Rosberg carried the momentum from his recent victory at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps to equally iconic Monza, as he set the pace in the first free practice of the Italian Grand Prix weekend chased by Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Rosberg’s best lap time of 1:22.959 was two tenths up on Hamilton’s best, who was almost a full second up on the next best Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel – third and fourth respectively.

Ferrari performing in the pressure cauldron of their home track, be looking to make amends for their incident packed and points bereft adventure in Belgium.
