Ferrari has become the first team to use all of its 2016 Formula 1 engine development tokens by spending the last of its allocation on an update for Monza.
As reported by Autosport on Thursday, the Scuderia has brought a new spec to its home race with the works team and customer Haas running it from first practice.
Ferrari is not expecting huge gains from the update, but it is hopeful it will be a small step forward as well as aiding development for next season.
The spend of three tokens means it has used all of its allocation of 32.
Rival Honda has three remaining and its chief Yusuke Hasegawa has said the manufacturer would like to use its full allocation.
However, while development is ongoing at Sakura, a decision has yet to be taken and Autosport understands Honda is planning on switching its full focus to 2017 at the end of September.
There is the potential that Mercedes, which has six tokens remaining, will introduce an update later this season but it has yet to make a decision.
Renault has the most tokens of any manufacturer remaining, but it is believed it does not feel it needs to use them all before the end of the season.
The next big step is expected in time for the start of next season, with any development this term likely to be minor tweaks.
