Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel survived a scare and a trip through the gravel trap during the first day of free practice of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, but remains positive ahead of race day at Red Bull Ring.

Speaking to media Vettel explained the the spin and resulting unscheduled trip into the sand pit in Turn 2, “We had an issue with the brake distribution. It caught me by surprise, but it didn’t matter too much and fortunately nothing happened.

“I lost a couple of minutes [of FP2], so it didn’t make a big difference.”

“It was a decent day,” summed up Vettel, “It is not entirely clear where we stand, as we didn’t have a lot of running due to the weather, in particular in the afternoon, but in general the car feels good. I think every race is an opportunity.”
