Nico Rosberg is somewhat surprised by Mercedes teammate Lews Hamilton’s sudden concern for F1 safety in the wake of the Hungarian Grand Prix double waved yellow flags during qualifying.

Speaking to NBCSN Rosberg said, “[Hamilton is] not someone who’s regarded for being interested in safety up to now, so quite a change there which I just noted.”

Asked if he was being biased in light of his pole winning lap at Hungaroring being set during the yellow flag period, Rosberg replied, “There’s nothing to be biased about, it’s just a reflection. You can have the same one.”

AS for the contentious incident Rosberg insisted, “It has been very clear, which is why I followed instructions totally and there was no issue,” Rosberg said.

“There’s no grey area – as long as you significantly slow down where there’s the incident where there’s the double yellow.”

“Setting a purple lap on a drying track has nothing to do with the incident because the sector is huge.”

“What’s important is you slow down in that one corner to keep things safe and that’s not changed. That’s the same as always,” concluded Rosberg who heads to his home race at Hockenheim second, behind Hamilton, in the F1 championship standings.
