Mercedes flexed their muscles early on the first day of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, as Lewis Hamilton headed Nico Rosberg topped the timing screens at the end of the first free practice session at Hungaroring, with their main rivals one and a half seconds adrift of the benchmark time.

The F1 World Champion team signaled their intent with Hamilton’s to time of 1:21.347 top time set during the ninety minutes morning session. Rosberg was a quarter of a second slower.

Best of the rest were the Ferrari pair of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, second and third respectively. Vettel’s best effort 1.644 seconds shy of Hamilton’s best time.

The Red Bull pair were next up with Daniel Ricciardo fifth fastest and Max Verstappen sixth on the timing sheets.
