Sauber driver Marcus Ericsson will line-up on the grid for the British Grand Prix after being given the all-clear by the FIA medical team at Silverstone on the morning of the race.

Ericsson was sent to hospital for routine examinations after he escaped uninjured from a heavy crash at the high-speed Stowe corner during FP3 on Saturday.

Despite not participating in qualifying, Ericsson had already been granted the FIA stewards’ permission to race based on his practice lap times.

Damage to his car was such that Sauber requested that a new chassis be scrutineered by officials ahead of the race.

Ericsson will start the 52-lap Grand Prix from the pit lane. The team have also replaced his gearbox.
