Kubica to test F1 Renault at Valencia

MyF1World

Grand Prix winner and fan favourite Robert Kubica will test a Formula 1 car for the very first time since a rally accident, in February 2011, cut short the Polish driver’s promising career at the pinnacle of the sport

Kubica won the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix, but the freak accident during the Ronde di Andora rally terminated his career in Formula 1. Although he returned to racing action after a lengthy recovery, his F1 stint was over and he has never returned to a grand prix even as a spectator.

This year he has tested a Formula 3 car as well as a Formula E and was down to race for By Kolles LMP1 team in the World Endurance Championship, but pulled out of the project shortly before the season got underway.

Kubica has been handed a test run in Valencia today (Tuesday), driving Renault’s showcar, a 2012-spec Lotus E20, the car Kimi Raikkonen drove to victory at the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

In 2011, he drove the Renault R31 and topped the timing screens in his final test for the team at Valencia, which sadly was also his final drive in a Formula 1 car.

Renault reserve Sergey Sirotkin is also scheduled to drive the car at Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo on the day.

Big Question: How good was Robert Kubica in F1?
