Jenson Button won’t be on the grid to compete in the 2017 Australian Grand Prix, but that’s not to say he has lost interest in Formula 1 as he spoke about what’s in store for fans this season.
Speaking to media during the Race of Champions (ROC) in Miami, Button said, “For anyone to catch Mercedes is a big ask, it really is. They’ve been so strong for the last three years.”
“With the way the regulations are now, there’s a lot more drag. So you need massive amounts of power, which Mercedes seems to have. I think if anyone challenges them, then they’ll have done a great job over this winter.”
“We all want a positive season, it’s important for Formula 1 to have many teams fighting at the front. We definitely need that after the last three years. And with the new regulations, it’s very positive for the sport, something that it also needed.”
“We’ve got to hope that this is the start of great things for Formula 1 in the future,” added Button who made 305 grand prix starts in his F1 career which began at the 2000 Australian Grand Prix.
