It was a bizarre moment that flashed on the Tv screens during the Brazilian Grand Prix, as Esteban Gutierrez was grabbed by Haas team principal Guenther Steiner, appearing to scold the Mexican in the team’s pt garage.
The incident occurred after Gutierrez retired from the race, walked into the pit garage and went on a rant which Steiner took offence too and confronted the outgoing Haas driver.
Earlier in the week Haas had announced that Kevin Magnussen would replace Gutierrez in the team for 2017, and confirmed that Romain Grosjean would remain with the team for another year.
Of the pit garage incident, Gutierrez told F1i. “But I was not angry at anyone, it was just the wrong timing and afterwards we were laughing with each other just about the moment. It looked like there was something going on but not necessarily.”
Of his anger on the day, he admitted, “I’m angry at the situation because it’s been like this very often in the year. It’s not a very nice place to be but we move on, I will never give up.”
Gutierrez has not scored a point so far this season, nevertheless he is well backed and is looking for an alternative way to be on the F1 grid next year
