Lewis Hamilton wanted answers from his team in the aftermath of the fire that engulfed his engine while he comfortably led the Malaysian Grand Prix and it appears that he and Mercedes team chief had a post race pow-wow in an attempt to put the matter to rest.
Wolf told media shortly after the race at Sepang, “We have all been in there together, mechanics and engineers. This team has always been able to recover well there is a great spirit in the team and we need to keep pushing and not let him and Nico down.
“You need to speak to him [Lewis] now. We have had a small meeting and it is clear you are seeking an explanation. There are no words and explanation. There are different failures all the time. It is a mechanic sport.
“It is clear that you are so frustrated with the situation what else are you expected to say. there is no rational explanation so everything comes into your mind. The words he said for the team in the meeting were really awesome. I can understand the immediate frustration when it comes to your mind,” added Wolff.
Earlier Hamilton did not mince his words, “We are fighting for the championship and only my engines are failing. It does not sit right with me. I will try and recollect myself and try to get myself together for the race next week.”
Hamilton’s DNF and Rosberg’s third place means that the German now leads the world championship standings by 23 points with five races remaining.
