Renault driver Jolyon Palmer did not take part in qualifying for the 2016 Mexican grand Prix, after his team were unable to repair his car in time for the Sunday afternoon following damage suspected to have been sustained in the final free practice session.

Palmer finished 14th fastest in FP3, but Renault mechanics discovered that his chassis was cracked following the session, possibly as a result of running very heavily over kerbs after a mistake late in the hour.

His failure to participate in qualifying means Palmer will now only be allowed to race at the stewards’ discretion. However, this should be a formality given his competitive laps times from practice.
