Mercedes F1 chairman Niki Lauda has Bernie Ecclestone for disparaging remarks he made regarding Nico Rosberg becoming world champion.

In Austin Ecclestone told reporters that Lewis Hamilton would make a better world champion than Rosberg, claiming that the German’s boring lifestyle did little to promote Formula 1, while Hamilton kept the sport in the headlines.

Lauda told Bild am Sonntag, “The criticism of potential future F1 world champion Nico Rosberg is excessive and uncalled for at such a crucial stage of the world championship title race, I think he is being very unfair.”

Mercedes team chief also reacted to Ecclestone’s comments by saying, “I think the driver who should be champion is the one at the end of the season with the most points. He deserves the title and should be fully appreciated.”
