Daniel Ricciardo missed out on victory at the Singapore Grand Prix by less than half a second, after a ballsy pursuit of eventual race winner Nico Rosberg, and the Australian believes that the next best chance of a win this season will be if and when it rains.
Speaking to Auto Hebdo, Ricciardo said, “I want a victory by the end of the season. In the dry, [Singapore] was probably our last chance. But if the rain comes when we want it, it could still work out.”
The Red Bull driver has yet to win a grand prix this season, although he did come close at Monaco, where his team botched his pitstop and cost him a place on the top step of the podium.
“This is not the first time victory has narrowly escaped up this year. We’ve been close but I can’t be too disappointed,” recalled the big smiling Aussie.
“I think we ran Mercedes close last weekend. We tried a strategic move in the end and missed it by a breath, but it was fun,” he said.
Although Mercedes have dominated this season, Ricciardo is adamant that he has not thrown in the towel just yet and insisted, “I’m all about 2016.”
