Lewis Hamilton is not sure that the momentum will swing back his way in the tussle for the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship between him and his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, as the title race heads to Round 16 in Malaysia with Hamilton trailing Rosberg in the standings by eight points.

Speaking in the build-uo to Sepang, Hamilton said, “I have no idea if the momentum will swing back to me or when it might. But we still have six races left, so I just have to keep giving it my all and hope for the best. That’s all you can do as a sportsman.”

Although the silver cars have dominated the season, the balance of power has shifted between the two Silver Arrows drivers during the course of the season..

At the start of the season Rosberg was untouchable as he notched up four wins on the trot, but then there was the coming together in Spain that resulted in DNFs for both drivers.

Thereafter Hamilton recovered to win six races between May and July, while Rosberg scored only one victory in that period.

The reigning world champion thus went on his summer break heading the standings and apparently in control.

But since the season resumed at Spa, Rosberg has again had the upper hand winning three in a row ahead of the weekend at Sepang.

Hamilton acknowledges, “Singapore was a difficult weekend for me, so to come away with a podium in the circumstances was pretty good damage limitation. Ultimately, Nico did an exceptional job and I didn’t have my best weekend. But that’s the way it goes.

“We’re both fiercely competitive. Some weekends he does great, some weekends I do great. It’s a combination of things that all come together to make a strong weekend and every one is different.

“It’s going to take some good results to get back in front and stay there, but I’ve had plenty of those in the past, so there’s no reason to think they won’t come back to me again.”

“Sepang is my first shot at it and I’m really looking forward to getting out there. It’s a track I usually go pretty well at,” venture Hamilton who will be hunting his 50th grand prix weekend at the venue he won at in 2014.
