Lewis Hamilton proved to be unbeatable on day one of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend as he ended the day fastest of all, with Ferrari showing handy pace as they chased the reigning world champion on the Ile Notre-Dame.
Hamilton was in top form at a venue where he has won four times before, in the afternoon session he set a best time of 1:14.212 on the Pirelli purple band ultrasoft tyre to claim top spot on the timing sheets as he did earlier in the morning.
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel was second fastest, splitting the Silver Arrows, with championship leader Nico Rosberg third and two tenths off the top time.
Max Verstappen was fourth, ahead of Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo a mere 0.012 of a second slower than the teenager.
