Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne has once again put the onus on Kimi Raikkonen to perform in the second half of the season to stand a chance of remaining with the Italian outfit beyond 2016.

When asked by Gazzetta dello Sport if the veteran Finn would remain at Maranello for 2017, Marchionne replied, “It is up to him. Kimi’s time with Ferrari will depend on his performance.

“He has to show that he deserves to stay here, otherwise I think he won’t want to continue here as well. There will come a day when I will leave [Ferrari] as well,” added the Ferrari chief.

Sebastian Vettel will of course remain with the team, but Raikkonen’s future is not the only uncertainty within Ferrari.

Marchionne explained, “A big problem is giving an opportunity to those people who aren’t on the frontline to grow; we aren’t lacking people and there is talent there.”

“One thing that I did, along with Maurizio Arrivabene, is we met all the people we have within the company, even those that maybe don’t get the attention they deserve. We want to give them opportunities to show they are capable,” concluded Marchionne.
